Spelling as Communication:
Portland Spelling Collective is a communication-centered space for nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and unreliably speaking individuals who spell or type to communicate. We welcome spellers, families, and practitioners from a variety of spelling-based methods, with the shared goal of supporting meaningful communication, connection, and growth.
We believe there is no one-size-fits-all path to communication. Each speller brings a unique sensory-motor profile, strengths, and needs.
Our vision is to create an inclusive place where different spelling approaches are respected, presumed competence is foundational, and multidisciplinary supports come together to help spellers access their voice.
